Jesus Ascended & Sent the Spirit

Thursday is Ascension Day. There will be 10 days from the Day of Ascension until Pentecost Sunday, which is May 31st in 2020. Consider it could be beyond important for you to prepare. Several leaders in the prophetic community have said Passover this year was more like the first Passover than any other ever in history. That’s because in Jerusalem (as well as here) people didn’t just celebrate it, people observed it. Families stayed in their homes hoping destruction would pass by.  At the first Passover the plague of destruction was death of the firstborn. This time around it was the COVID-19 virus. Since this year’s Passover, was so unique, it has been suggested that this year’s Pentecost will also be like no other with a great outpouring of the Spirit of God arriving around that time.

Who was passed over at the first Passover? Who escaped death of their firstborn? Those who remained in their homes after having placed the blood of the lamb on their lintels and doorposts; they were spared. Who received the baptism of the Spirit and fire? Those who remained in the upper room waiting with holy expectation while worshiping together and preparing themselves; they experienced the wind and fire of God.  In both cases the obedient received the blessing, the protection and the empowerment of God. The community at large was mostly oblivious. Where are you now with all this? How much do you want to position yourself for whatever God may be about to do on the earth?

May I suggest to you this Pentecost may be the Pentecost of a lifetime?  Many of us haven’t returned to our usual schedules with all that business quite yet. Circumstances are such that many folk have extra discretionary time. That’s a sweet convergence of circumstances.  Don’t miss your opportunity to seek God at this unprecedented time. You just might find yourself entering a divine encounter with a whole new glorious depth of connection to your LORD! How hungry are you for more of God? Invest according to your desire. Scripture says we will find God when we seek him with all our heart.

Jason-Hubbard-e1559435822111Today Jason Hubbard, Executive Director of the Light of the World Prayer Center in Bellingham Washington, talked about this upcoming Ascension to Pentecost time period. It’s at the beginning of a video in which he teaches out of the book of Revelation. I think the information he shared could be very useful to you. So I want to relay it. Here’s a summary of what he had to say and a link to the video:

jesus-2630077_1920Beginning that first Resurrection Day until the Day of Ascension here’s what happened:  Jesus rose from the dead, walked on the earth 40 days with a glorified human body (there’s eight resurrection appearances of Jesus recorded in scripture). Then on the 40th day he ascended back to the Father. Just before ascending, he commissioned his disciples to wait in the city of Jerusalem for his promised gift of the Holy Spirit. They waited in prayer and praise together and that gift came on Pentecost.

Jason explained that he wants to encourage the church at large to celebrate Ascension Day. He said Ascension Day is sometimes one of the missing events on the church calendar. He thinks it should be equal to Good Friday, Passover and Resurrection Sunday.  Jason said, “It’s a massive moment in biblical history and I think to spend some time focusing on that would behoove us well.”

man-under-waterfall-2150164_1280He encouraged us to carve out a 10 day celebration beginning that day (Thursday, May 21 this year) and ending on Pentecost. “Spend 10 days in prayer and praise, and wait on the LORD, asking for a fresh infilling of the Person of the Holy Spirit” were his thoughts.

He and others on the Global Day of Prayer team wrote a guide for people to use during daily devotions.  He also mentioned a one hour global broadcast they’re leading Pentecost Sunday, purposed to seek God for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the nations of the earth.

So as you get ready for Pentecost, I hope you’ll make those ten days a special time. Jason’s materials are one possible resource for doing so. You could contact the Light of the World Prayer Center to request a booklet. That, or the LORD may give you another Holy Spirit inspired direction to follow.  Either way, if you love the LORD and want to be on the forefront of his activity on the earth, I encourage you to consider how you might draw nearer to him and prepare your heart ahead of time.  I wouldn’t want you to miss this unique opportunity to be part of what the Spirit of God is doing to build the Kingdom on the planet.
